Birding ToursIf we had to take a pick of our company's favorite animal it would have to be one of the 850 different species of birds. Birding is a hobby that has become very popular over the years and Costa Rica is one of the best places on the planet to enjoy this hobby. Due to the small size of the country and how fast the climate and elevation change it makes for a birders paradise when trying to see many different species in a short amount of time. Our expertise in birding is what keeps us busy during the off season always looking for new areas of the country to enjoy the different species of birds. Our birding trips are operated privately in modern gasoline SUV’s. Our guides are some of the best guides around, and they do this with a passion and a love of birding. Arrival, birding, and drive to La Condesa Hotel (La Condesa Hotel)
Arrival to Juan Santamaría Int. Airport. Visit el Rodeo which has some of the best birding close to the airport. Doing some birding before we take you to the hote, will allow us to break the ice and get everyone in the mood. We’ll then take you to a hotel that has an elevation of around 7,000ft and we will continue birding in the evening and the following morning. (Meals: None) Birding Hikes as we make our way to hotel (Hotel Villa Blanca)
Drive to the cloud forest , on the way hike at Zona Protectora El Chayote and lunch at Rancho Amalia. This day is filled with a lot of birding (and not much driving).Our hotel, Villa Blanca is a great place for birding in the evening and following morning. (Meals: Breakfast & Lunch) Travel and afternoon birding (Maquenque Eco-Lodge)
Today we will make the drive to the Maquenque Hotel which is famous for the green-macaw. When we arrive we will unload our stuff and then take off and do some birding till it gets dark. (Meals: Breakfast & Lunch) Activites at Hotel (Maquenque Eco-Lodge (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner)
At this great birding location we will enjoy the activities around us. We might just sit and observe the green-macaw or we will take off on some more hikes. This is a day where all bird-lovers can easily fill their time and we promise to help with our morning and afternoon hikes. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner) (Lost Iguana) Today is a travel day but we will not travel far. Just a one hour drive to the famous Arenal Volcano. We’ll stop at the National Park of Arenal. This is a great area with amazing views of the volcano and a chance to walk on the old lava trails. We will spend the afternoon in the park, birding and then head to the Lost Iguana Resort where we can continue birding before and after dinner. (Meals: Breakfast) Visit Cano Negro and HotSprings (Lost Iguana)
Today we will make the drive to Cano Negro where we will take a boat down a river looking at different species of birds. This is a great day on the water and also a chance to see other wildlife in the area. After the boat float we’ll return to La Fortuna where we will enjoy a great meal and a chance to relax in the hotsprings. (Meals: Breakfast & Dinner) Silencio Reserve and Hanging Bridges(Lost Iguana)
Today we will visit one of the not-so-highly-visited reserves in the area which makes it great for birding. The Silencio Reserve is an amazing area with a great number of birds and not to mention some amazing views of the volcano. After the Silencio Reserve we’ll go to the hanging bridges in the evening. This is another great birding area but also has beautiful bridges and a large number of interesting plants and trees in the area. (Meals: Breakfast) Drive from Arenal area to San Jose Airport
Drive to San José and fly home.
