Eco-Budget Adventure
Arrive Espino Blanco (Espino Blanco) There are few places as good to start your eco-adventure than Espino Blanco. This is where you will be heading when you meet your naturalist-adventure guide outside of the airport. You will be surrounded by nature from the time you arrive at the property, which is a private reserve. This an ecolodge that has a perfect blend of rustic living and luxury. The rooms are very clean and perfectly designed to make you feel you are staying in a high end ecolodge. When you arrive you will enjoy dinner in their restaurant which is literally built right into the reserve removing as few trees as possible. (Meals: Dinner) Duckies in Pejibaye (Espino Blanco) Today we will enjoy breakfast looking at the views offered from the restaurant into the endless green mountains of Cerro de la Muerte. After breakfast we will drive to a nearby river called Pejibaye. This river is one of the most pristine and clear rivers in all of Costa Rica. Instead of riding down in rafts everyone will get their own duckie, which is a small raft made for one or two rowers. This will allow you to steer your way through some class I & class II rapids. This is an excellent first day adventure and the adrenaline gets pumping when you approach the class two rapids and it is up to you to steer through the obstacles. If there are children in the group younger than 12 years old they will still be able to go in a duckie but will be accompanied by one of our guides. We'll eat lunch right on the river, prepared by your finest CRR-River Guide/Chefs. In the evening for dinner you will be visiting a nearby village called Sitio de Mata. This is one of the most beautiful scenic areas of all of Turrialba. The families in Sitio live simply and are some of the nicest folks you can imagine. We will be visiting the village as part of our commitment to Ecotourism as we allow the community to cook us a traditional meal and show off some of the local cuisine, music, and dance of the Turrialba area. At night we will head back to the Espino Blanco Lodge for a good nights rest in preparation for your day three of whitewater rafting. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner) Enter Pacuare (Pacuare Camp) National Geographic has this river listed as one of their top five favorites. The better news is that CRR has this listed as their #1 river and no doubt their favorite. We will leave the Espino Blanco lodge after breakfast and be ready for our two day rafting adventure. As you were at Espino Blanco Lodge, be prepared to be surrounded even more by nature as you adventure into the Pacuare River and do a full two days of rafting, hiking, and camping in some of the most scenic places of all of Costa Rica. The whitewater rafting is our favorite adventure in Costa Rica. The first day of the Pacuare 2-day adventure will involve rafting some rapids for around two hours. We will begin at an area known as La Cruz and from there we will get geared up for the adventure. Everyone will get a paddle, helmet, life-vest and safety lesson. After we make our way down just over an hour you will stop for another CRR river lunch. We will arrive at the Pacuare Camp Site in early afternoon. This is not roughing it by any means. There are beautiful bathrooms, showers, and above ground tents. There is a social area where everyone can just relax in a hammock and enjoy the view downstream. (Meals: Breakfast & Lunch) Leave Pacuare and Drive to Caribbean (Azania) You will wake up today to the sound of the river and jungle. It is a magical experience to be on the Pacuare at dawn. We will take our time getting up or we can go for a hike while we wait for the coffee to get brewing and our hearty breakfast. Today is a day of two hours that everyone remembers. We will be running the Pacuare Canyon which is home to some of the best class IV rapids you will find. We will be passing waterfalls that fall into the river and rafting through canyons of walls that shoot up from the river surface reaching to the sky as far as the eye can see. After we take on the class IV's we'll take out in a town called Siquirres. Here we will change into dry clothes and then back in the bus as we head to the Caribbean side of Costa Rica. The ride will take around 2 hours. When we arrive to the hotel we will be staying at Azania which is a beautiful little hotel just steps away from the beach. Their lodging is in private bungalows making it a very private setting surrounded by nature. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner) Rappel Waterfall & Visit Bribri Indigenous Reserve (Azania) After what we are sure will be a good night's rest you might be awaken by the howler monkeys around 5am. You will enjoy breakfast at the hotel around 8am and we will be on our way after breakfast. Today we will have the ropes and harnesses with us as we drive into the Bribri Indigenous Tribe area. The plan for today is a little bit adventure mixed with a very interesting culture experience of the Bribri Indigenous people. This a very important visit on behalf of our company as it supports our commitment to ecotourism and the fight for conservation in some of the most important yet forgotten about areas in the tropics, the ancient indigenous people. Before we get to the Bribri Reserve we will be filling that urge for more adventure as we go deep into the rainforest to rappel a 100ft waterfall. This is a descent that is absolutely beautiful and a chance to perfect your rappelling skills. After the rappel we'll continue on to a river we will need to cross in old banana company boats. When we get to the other side we'll then go further into the reserve getting to the Cultural Center of the Bribri Tribe. Here we will be met by some of the leaders of the tribe and they will explain some of their traditions and beliefs. We will also enjoy a traditional meal, song, and dance. This is an amazing experience of looking into the lives of the true experts of the rainforest. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner) Snorkel & Beach Time (Azania) If you want to snorkel in Costa Rica the Caribbean side is one of the best. With over 500 endemic species of fish and 35 different species of corals, the Caribbean has plenty to see during your snorkel tour. We will be visiting an area called Punta Uva which is very easy access. We will get geared up on shore and simply walk into the water and swim out to the reefs. We will spend as long as the heart desires, giving us a chance to swim in and around the different cave-like structures that have been formed. In the afternoon it is your time to relax. We can go back to the hotel and you can enjoy the pool or you can just relax on one of the many beaches in the area. In the evening we will take you out to one of the many restaurants in the area if you are in the mood for some local flavor. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner) Drive to San Jose (La Condesa) Today you can spend the morning at the beach getting your last few hours of sunshine. When you are ready we will make the drive back to San Jose getting us close to the airport for your final day of the tour. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner) Fly Home! Tour Ends but you can extend the tour if you want, just let us know!
