When to See WhalesIf you are going whale-watching in Costa Rica the whale you want to see is the humpback whale. Here in Costa Rica it has the longest season for viewing, longer than any other place in the world. They like to do their mating in warmer waters. August - October - This is the winter in Antarctic so the whales come to Costa Rica for vacation. December - April - This is the winter in the Arctic where another set of humpbacks come from, to vacation in Costa Rica.
