Sitio de Mata Project
At Costa Rican Resource we saw the need to start a culture experience that was more authentic. We were not looking for a "touristy" business that would just herd groups of tourist through and collect dollars. We decided to start a co-op with a local village called Sitio de Mata in Turrialba. Here we bring many of our student groups and house over 500 students per year offering a substantial economic boost to the community. In return the members of the community offer an authentic culture experience from language, cuisine, dance, and much more.
This project is also used often for our family groups as we visit for a lunch and a small show of local dance. We try to keep it as authentic as possible but we even have a souvenir shop for the locals. The best part is that all the souvenirs are made from trash from the local community.
The company of CRR was built around rafting and unforgettable adventure but the heart of our company rest with the locals of Sitio de Mata from where many of our river guides have grown up and trained with us and now work for CRR.
